Our latest reviews

Had my class over the weekend and got great instructions from Lee, Ted, Noah and Patrick. The practical exercises and drills progressed nicely throughout the day, building on some foundations. Lee & Ted’s focus on safety and building good riding habits made me really feel that 1st gear isn’t in the market to just take your money and sign off on anyone’s MST/MSA. Noah and Patrick gave really good advice to the class to tidy up some skills during our drills all while maintaining the chill atmosphere/vibe. All of them are knowledgeable and passionate about the sport, just don’t ask them to do the math on how many years of experience they have combined. The range of available motorcycles was really great too as everyone in the class was able to try out many different styles of riding and really find what they’re looking for without committing to something blindly. I look forward to continuing on with the sessions afterwards to gain more confidence on the road in preparation for a road test and will recommend this school to anyone looking to get into riding.

I wasn’t sure if (as a 67 year old woman) I would be capable on a motorcyle and/or like operating one. Instructors Lee and Todd were very personable, clear, and supportive. The course work itself was well laid out as was the practical work. Starting slowly to make sure we understood the weight/balance of a motorcyle up to learning how to make a quick but practiced manoeuver to get out of potential trouble – all this has made me look forward to purchasing a bike and getting out on the road. Thank you guys!

1st Gear got me from having never even touched a motorcycle to passing my MST within a few hours of theory work and 1 weekend of riding. Patrick, Kiefer, and Lee all went out of their way to provide actual useful feedback for every exercise and genuinely want to see you improve. They show you lots of practical and useful skills learned for everyday situations in the real world and the ability to try out different bikes if you feel so inclined. Well worth the cost!! I would have no hesitation to recommend this school to anyone looking to enter the world of motorcycling!

Who is 1st Gear Motorcycle Training?

We are a motorcycle training school that started in 2014. Since then we have trained thousands of riders and become the most reviewed motorcycle school in the Lower Mainland and the largest. We have over 900 reviews between Google and Facebook. The best advocate for our school, teaching methods and 1st Gear experience is best said by our students. Our instructors are long time street riders and dirt riders backed up with hours of advanced rider training. We are instructors but we are also students as well. We have three locations to serve all the new riders from Vancouver to Surrey to Langley to Coquitlam to North Vancouver. Our training lots add up to over 15,000 square meters of space (3.8 acres) ensuring all students get the proper amount of room to learn shifting, aggressive safety maneuvers, and never be too close to each other. Our Coquitlam location is our largest training lot. Our class sizes vary from 3 students to 15 students for group lessons. Our busiest classes of the year are on weekends in Spring and early summer. If you have your learners license you are good to go to signup for a motorcycle course. Start with our online classroom material from your home on your schedule. Then into our in person classroom. Followed up by two days on the training lot with our motorcycles. All learn to ride students get the MST test done onsite at our locations. No need to go to ICBC. Once ready, we will book you a preferential time for the final road test at ICBC. 1st Gear Motorcycle Training is your one and done Motorcycle School.
